Suzuki Marine Launches New Jet Drive Units For Popular 90 And 115hp Outboards

Suzuki Combines Maximum Horsepower With Shallow Water Utility

Suzuki Marine USA has partnered with industry leader SEI (Stern Drive Engineering) to introduce jet-drive lower units for its popular 90 and 115 horsepower outboards for the 2027 model year, bringing boat builders, dealers and owners of shallow-draft vessels new options when it comes to high-performance propulsion in skinny water.

Jet drive outboards are the optimal power choice for specific boating applications, such as river fishing for salmon, duck hunting boats, and others who need to operate in shallow, obstacle filled waters.   Because the propeller is replaced with a water jet, these outboards allow boats to run upriver through shallow riffles, reaching areas where fish are holding or navigating rock- or log-choked backwaters to reach prime water fowling spots.   Simply put, boats powered by Suzuki jet-drive outboards can take sportsmen or professional watermen into areas where prop-powered boats fear to tread.

Suzuki’s in-line 4-cylinder DF90 and DF115 4-strokes are proven performers boasting a wide range of performance and reliability features, such as a water-detecting system to prevent fuel contamination, Suzuki Lean Burn technology for optimum efficiency, Suzuki Easy Start for reliable starting in all conditions, and a self-adjusting timing chain for long-term reliability.

Suzuki’s offset driveshaft design with 2.59:1 gear reduction ratio delivers better balance on the transom and plenty of torque to push heavily laden boats.   This gear reduction ratio is known to provide extra low end “grunt” when powering a boat out of the hole.  It has an added advantage for jet-drive equipped versions of Suzuki’s 90HP and 115HP models — significantly reducing the horsepower loss boaters have come to accept when moving from a prop to a jet.

“Fishermen, hunters and others who regularly operate jet-drive outboards expect to experience a certain level of power loss compared to a traditional prop motor.   Our innovative engine/driveshaft design and powerful gear reduction ratio helps more of this power reach the water and maintains a level of performance sportsmen have come to expect from the Suzuki brand,’ said Brandon Cerka, Suzuki Marine USA Executive Vice President Sales, Marketing and Service.  “These new outboards are an ideal choice for boatbuilders and enthusiasts who need extreme shallow-water capabilities without compromising performance and reliability,” Cerka added.

According to Cerka, Suzuki’s unique power profile has helped drive demand from large aluminum boatbuilders like SeaArk and Excel who specialize in these types of shallow-water vessels for fishing, hunting, or working on the water.  “This is just the beginning when it comes to the jet drive market for Suzuki,” added Cerka.

Through this partnership, Suzuki engines will continue to be ordered through the normal process and will include the standard lower unit.  The jet pump units must be ordered separately through SEI using the correct SKU number.
